Leominster has its own brewery, set up by Jimmy Swan, a brewer of almost a quarter of a century of experience in research brewing as well as large (Hall & Woodhouse) and medium (Wye Valley Brewery) size family breweries. Swan Brewery was founded in 2015 with the aim to brew classic beer styles exceptionally well, and to do this in an environmentally sensitive and sustainable way. The brewery is 10 barrels in size, a microbrewery, which means each batch is 2,880 pints of lovely ale. The brewery is located on the Enterprise Park to the south of the town, a friendly network of small product and service businesses. Raw materials are chosen with care: about 85% of the hops used are grown in Herefordshire or Worcestershire; the grain we brew with is grown in the east of England; we use live, never powdered yeast which we propagate and harvest for use from brew to brew.
Our beers include Swan Gold 4.0%, a refreshing 4.0% golden ale and Ruffled Feathers 3.8%, a red hued amber session ale brewed with Cascade hops grown in Bosbury. Alongside these core ales, we generally offer one or two seasonal specials which will be available for 4-6 weeks at a time. Seven Swans is our crisp blonde 4.2% ale. Lemner Ore is a deep golden ale brewed specially for the Leominster Festival.
Our customers for cask ales are the pubs, clubs, festivals and events in Herefordshire and close parts of neighbouring counties. Naturally you are likely to find our beers in the pubs and hotels of Leominster. We also offer casks and various sizes of packs (9-36 pints) for parties and events to members of the public. Our own brewery shop is open on Fridays 9.30 to 2.30 and other times by arrangement. There’s often a chance to taste our beer straight from the cask. We have a selection of ales in bottles and these come in 3 and 6 bottle gift packs or you can take a single bottle away.
You might come across us at food festivals around Herefordshire and h.Energy – the celebration of sustainability – where we take our bar for an outing and meet drinkers! We are active on social media and you might read about us in the press, for example for our beer Lily Little Legs, which raises money for Birmingham Children’s Hospital, or our collaboration with Quarry Farm in creating Steak and Swan Pie.
Leominster is a wonderful town and we are so pleased to be part of the thriving business and social community.
